It depends on the company. Some require at least a 2 year degree, such as many government entities. Many do not.
I dropped out of college to pursue a CNE certification and work full time, then eventually moved into software engineering.
If you can’t afford the schooling costs, I’d recommend classes in OOP and database structures to get started. There is a definitive lack of programmers right now, so that is working in your favor.

I have a website that sells computer education, games and business advice. Can someone give me some niche sites other than the big guys like Yahoo, Google or Ask?

I am seeking educational computer software for a 4 to 5 year old. Programs that help with reading and maths, etc.
As I am Australian, I am hoping to avoid programs that have American spellling and voices/accents.
Are such products available that are more ‘Australian’?
